Life, Love and Destiny

Last year at ArtFest, I had the pleasure of taking a wonderful class from artist Laurie Mika. She taught and inspired us to create our own personal shrines with painted tiles and special treasures. Lucky for me, Laurie is super friendly and lives in So. Cal. She has encouraged me in my art journey and we share what we love: life & ART!!! Here is the beautiful little pocket shrine she just sent me and the reliquary she honored me with at Christmas. Thank you Laurie,
your spirit is golden and I cherish you,
dear art sister! xoxo

May your dreams come true

You are Sweet

ARt Sister Dress 4 Kim

Our artist inspiration for this art sister swap was Lynn Whipple. I have taken a class from Lynn and let me tell you, scratch that, I probably shouldn't tell you, but since I am telling a story I guess I should.
This story starts at ArtFest......like many great art stories....
I was attending my first ArtFest and I saw that Lynn's class made very sweet little canvas houses. (You know how much I love houses, right?)
It was then that I decided, that Lynn was an artist /teacher I would have to take a class from. Fast forward to my second year at ArtFest and I did just that. I signed up for a class with Lynn Whipple, but it wasn't the house! This class was about dresses made from copper and paper......at the time that didn't really interest me.....making dresses......I wanted the houses! Well, I got my house!! We had our class in a little house, with 8 of us together for the day.....making art and talking......it was unlike any class I've ever been in. It was like being home!
I loved being in that class and I LOVE making dresses!!!
Thank you LynnWhipple! (And Teesha 2!)

She waits for You

Have you ever tried using sand paper or those big block nail files to distress your stickers and clip art? I love this super quick way to get a worn vintage look. Start from the outside and work around and in or just sand random spots until you get the look you desire. I keep a bunch of different grit sand paper scraps and nail files in a water case box. This is also where I do most of my sanding. Try it and have fun creating your own vintage designs.

Sewing Notions

My head is still spinning with ideas for the upcoming Sew Somerset!
Here I've created some clip art with old sewing notions and my scanner.
Sew easy to do really and it would make a great background! I will be making more of these with some great old measuring tapes, vintage lace and other goodies from my sewing baskets. The idea for creating a series of backgrounds came to me from Catherine Moore. I am also inspired by Connie Govea Stuart, who has been my sweet art sister since before we even met! Thank you both for your encouragement and kindness!! XO

Sew What?!

On Friday, while I was at Somerset Studio dropping off some art, editor Jenny Doh shared with me some exciting news about Somerset Studio's brand new special publication titled "Sew Somerset - The Art of Creative Sewing & Mixed Media". This brand new publication will feature innovative and imaginative art projects that incorporate sewing. This is so wonderful, because I do love to sew!! Inspired to create a paper quilt using adopted family photos along with fabric scraps and all sorts of sweet little embellishments, here is my first square. What do you think, are you as excited as me??!

Make a little art EVERY day!

Working small is great, because it allows me to make little art pieces EVERY day. I love to create and work with my hands. Making art takes me to a place where my soul can speak. I wish you all art, adventure and many blessings!! Lisa

A New Year of Dreams and Possibilities

We create the life we lead with our thoughts and actions.
Dream what you will and it will be yours.
Work everyday to become your best self and you will be that.
My wish for the New Year is for my life and my art to become one.
Cheers,
Lisa
